Fortnite Was 2018’s Most Played Game on Switch (in Europe)
Fortnite continues to dominate on every platform and in every region that it lands in.
Despite the many great games that came out last year, 2018 will likely always be remembered as the Year of Fortnite. Regardless of your opinion on the game, there’s no denying that it dominated on every platform that it touched.
Recently, further proof of this was made available to the public when Nintendo announced last year’s most played games on Switch, at least for the Europe region. As should come as no surprise, Fortnite was the year’s most played title on the platform, beating out that of some of Nintendo’s most noteworthy first-party releases.
What’s perhaps most impressive about Fortnite’s dominance on Switch is that it launched back in June of 2018 meaning it only had about a six month period of time for playability. The other top five entries on this chart, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, all launched the previous year in 2017, which means they all had the full twelve months of 2018 to rack up playtime. Still, it wasn’t enough for any of these games to pass Fortnite, which is pretty crazy.
As for the biggest new releases of 2018 in terms of playability, FIFA 19 was unsurprisingly the highest ranking. This is Europe, after all. Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee also did quite well, with each game landing in the year’s top 10.
