FoxNext Games, the gaming division of Twentieth Century Fox, announced today that they have acquired developer Cold Iron Studios to create a new online shooter that is set in the cinematic universe of Alien. This new title will be coming to PC and unannounced console platforms upon release and will break away from the mobile scene in which FoxNext has mainly operated in up until now.

FoxNext Games' president Aaron Loeb spoke about the acquisition of Cold Iron Studios and what he expects them to bring to the table by saying the following:

"Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship, and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games. I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe."

Cold Iron Studios was established in 2015 by a group of industry veterans who worked on games such as Metroid Prime 3Bioshock Infinite, and Neverwinter. Since that time, the team has grown to 25 members in size and has moved to an office in Silicon Valley.

Cold Iron's CEO Craig Zinkievich spoke about how he believed his team is well suited to tackle this new project considering the past games they have worked on.

"We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe. Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.”

It'll likely be awhile until we see or hear more about this Alien game, but the sparse details seem promising. After some disappointing previous tries at shooters set in this universe, fans are definitely hungry for an Alien game that satisfies their desire to blow away Xenomorphs.
