Have you ever thought to yourself: yeah, Detective Pikachu is nice, but what I really need is a prequel e-book so that I can understand the character motivations of my coffee-chugging, Danny DeVito-sounding protagonist?

Well, good news! Nintendo has released a Detective Pikachu prequel e-book to cater to your incredibly specific desires! It is titled Detective Pikachu - Episode 0: Eevee's Case and is currently free to download off of Amazon for your Kindle or Apple iBook device. This 25-page storybook chronicles one of Detective Pikachu's most hard-hitting cases: an Eevee's yard got messed up, so he has to find out who did it. Take notes, Agatha Christie.

Jokes aside, the commemorative prequel story is both free and adorably cute, so if you are a fan of the Detective Pikachu game or are just looking for a cute storybook to read to your children (or yourself, I won't judge) before bedtime, you can download Detective Pikachu - Episode 0: Eevee's Case on Amazon right now. Between playing Detective Pikachu and reading the book, you can also score yourself a ridiculously over-sized amiibo of the intrepid detective or get yourself one of the new Pikachu 2DS models to fill that Pikachu-shaped hole in your life.

Detective Pikachu is currently available for purchase on the Nintendo 3DS. It's a delightfully strange entry in the Pokemon franchise, and it's good to see Nintendo releasing supplemental materials for its new angle at the series.
