The official Twitter account for bishonen x swimming anime Free published a surprise announcement on July 26 (JST), teasing a brand new trailer for Free the Final Stroke.

Free!–the Final Stroke– is a two-part movie project set to be a sequel to the third season of the Free franchise, Free!-Dive to the Future-. The first movie is scheduled to launch on September 19, 2021, in Japanese theaters. The second movie is planned for April 22, 2022.

This movie is highly awaited by fans. It was delayed from its initial mid-2020 release due to the arson attack on Kyoto Animation Studio 1 on July 18, 2019. 36 employees of the studio lost their lives in the attack, including one of Free's directors, Yasuhiro Takemoto. He was the director of the prequel, High Speed! Free! Starting Days, depicting Haruka and the other characters as junior high students.

Adapting High Speed, the swimming-themed light novel by Koji Oji, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club initially started in 2013. The anime series follows a group of swimmers and the various competitions they go through, following them over their school years.

Personally speaking, I've only seen the first season so far, but it was amazing. Whether you're into bishonen or not, Free manages to be a well-written, particularly engaging sports anime with friendship and rivalries.
