Today, publisher Gun Media revealed to Variety that Friday the 13th: The Game was coming to Nintendo Switch sometime this Spring. This is a very interesting release considering that the game's developers may not be able to add any new content to Friday the 13th: The Game because of a legal battle regarding the rightful ownership of the Friday the 13th IP instigated by screenwriter Victor Miller.

While the screenwriter won the rights back last fall, no new content has been added to Friday the 13th: The Game since. Despite the bedlam this lawsuit has caused, Gun Media did not mention it at all in their statement to Variety. Director of Communications Daniel Nixon simply said that "we’re happy to be bringing Friday the 13th: The Game to the Nintendo Switch...The Nintendo Switch offers a unique experience, in both social settings and on the go, that we feel work very well with Friday the 13th: The Game."

Due to the aforementioned lawsuit, it is unlikely that this release will be anything more than a simple port. That being said, it will include all previously released DLC. Daniel Nixon also confirmed that the port is being developed "with the help of our partners at Black Tower and Nighthawk." This makes sense as Black Tower took over development duties for Friday the 13th: The Game from original developer Illfonic Games last year. Nighthawk Interactive has also assisted with development on this multiplayer title in the past.

Interestingly, Friday the 13th: The Game won't be the only multiplayer horror game nor the first Friday the 13th Game to be available on Nintendo's hybrid console. The latest Nintendo Direct revealed that Dead by Daylight is coming to Switch this fall, while Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle released for the system last fall.

For now, there is no gameplay footage of this game running on Nintendo Switch and we do not know if it will support features like voice chat. If you do want to try out this game despite the odd situation the developer and publisher have found themselves in, Friday the 13th: The Game is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though Nintendo Switch will hopefully be added to this lineup during Spring 2019.
