During GameInformer's month long coverage of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the next game from famed developer From Software, the conversation about a potential remaster of Demon's Souls came up with current president Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Miyazaki was the game director of the PlayStation 3 exclusive Demon's Souls from 2009 and despite the game's passionate fan-base, one which is still attempting to keep private servers for the game online, Miyazaki himself is not a fan.

It’s like when you write – when you’re younger, you look back on [previous work] and you think ‘Oh, goodness what was I thinking.' It’s not that I’m embarrassed, I just don’t like to look at my previous works.

Same Miyazaki. He also adds, "You’d have to see what they’re [Sony] thinking about it," since they are the publisher and presumably right's holder of the Demon's Souls name. Despite passing on making Dark Souls a PlayStation exclusive, Sony did work with From Software again on an exclusive title, Bloodborne in 2015. Whether they would be interested in working with From Software again on a follow up to Bloodborne has been a topic of much speculation.

If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realizing it again, then that’s something I would enjoy. But it’s really complicated because I have these fond memories. Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that. That was the first action fantasy game that I created, or I directed. I have fond memories of it, but it’s definitely not my place to say they’ll remaster.

A potential studio that comes to mind in terms of a remaster of Demon's Souls is Bluepoint Games, the developers behind the remake of Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4 that released early last year. Bluepoint is working on another remaster, confirmed when talking to Eurogamer last year after the release of Shadow of the Colossus, and that their current project is, "a bit bigger," than Shadow of the Colossus, though what that exactly means is undefined.

Aside from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, From Software currently has two unannounced projects in the works, though neither of them is a King's Field game due to the lack of Naotoshi Jin who was the president of From Software until 2014 and is currently holding a nebulous advisory role for the developer. From Software most recent game, Déraciné , was a VR experience releeased late last year for PlayStation VR. Demon's Souls shut down its servers in February of 2018 though hope for getting them back online was renewed when the Library of Congress adopted some additional DMCA exceptions for online games whose servers are now offline, though it requires the participation of the server code owner.
