While Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are the titles that truly put FromSoftware on the map, the developer was around for over two decades before that. During this pre-Souls time, one of the Japanese developer's most notable series was King's Field. That being said, the series hasn't seen a new release since King's Field: Additional II for PSP in 2006. During a recent interview with 4Gamer, FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked if FromSoftware would ever consider reviving the King's Field franchise.

Unfortunately, his answer will displease fans of the series. While Hidetaka Miyazaki never said no outright, he made it clear that a King's Field revival isn't coming anytime soon. As translated by DualShockers' Iyane Agossah, Hidetaka Miyzaki stated that the series is the brainchild of former FromSoftware President Naotoshi Jin, so FromSoftware doesn't believe that a new game in the franchise "would have the same appeal" without Naotoshi Jin's influence:

"4Gamer: A lot of fans would like to play some of From Software’s older series again. In particular, there are many who wish to play a new King’s Field game.

Hidetaka Miyazaki: The King’s Field series was heavily dependent on [Naotoshi] Jin. Huge parts of the series, much more than you’d think, were shaped by his personality and input so a new King’s Field game without him wouldn't have the same appeal.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the franchise, King's Field is a 3D dungeon-crawling RPG series that debuted alongside the original PlayStation. While they may seem like fairly typical RPGs by today's standards, the King's Field titles laid the groundwork for mechanics such as the limited stamina system that would eventually influence titles like Demon's Souls. Four mainline King's Field games have been developed as well as Sword of Moonlight: King's Field Making Tool for PC, King's Field Additional I & II for PSP, and three mobile ports.

As for Naotoshi Jin, he was President of FromSoftware from its inception until 2014. He still apparently fills an advisory role for the company, which might give King's Field fans a glimmer of hope to hold on to. Still, Hidetaka Miyazaki's comment on the matter makes it fairly clear that a King's Field game likely isn't on the immediate docket. If plans were to ever change though, DualShockers would let you know.

Fortunately, there is still a lot of FromSoftware content for fans to look forward to. In this same interview with 4Gamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki teased that FromSoftware was working on two projects, though it's unlikely that one of them is Bloodborne 2. For those of you who want to prepare of the developer's next game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available for pre-order on Amazon.
