Frostpoint is a PVP VR Shooter From inXile Entertainment
Frostpoint is a new multiplayer shooter from the team behind games like Wasteland 3 and The Mage's Tale.
While Wasteland 3 is set to launch later this year, inXile is already hard at work on another game. This one is a step away from what you might expect from the developer, though their work on The Mage’s Tale was a solid foray in virtual reality. For their next dive into VR, the team is bringing the world Frostpoint. It’s a multiplayer shooter with PVE elements. Give the announce trailer a look below.
As you can see in the trailer, Frostpoint is, at its core, a 10v10 shooter. You and your team will coordinate attacks and implement a strategy to effectively murder the other team. However, inXile tosses a bit of a wrench into combat with AI-controlled creatures. These attack both sides and forces you to quickly adapt your plans on the fly.
Frostpoint also looks to have quite the arsenal to play with. The trailer shows off several “highly-detailed” and realistic weapons. Though, this being inXile, there are also some wild-looking sci-fi guns that should change up gameplay quite a bit.
In an interview with UploadVR, studio head Brian Fargo talked a bit about the games’ upcoming Open Beta period. The team is taking a bit of an interesting approach. They’re planning to bring in about 10,000 players and, if those people hit certain thresholds, inXile will give them a copy of the retail release for free. It’s a nice way to reward all that testing work players will do, while also giving the team a solid playerbase to start with on launch day.
We don’t yet know Frostpoint‘s release date. The team is aiming to have it out this year on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index. And the Open Beta will kick off in September.
