11bit Studios' Frostpunk is a difficult survival strategy game that forces you to make impossible decisions to keep your society alive. The game did well critically upon release and, by April 2019, had sold nearly 1.5 million copies on PC. That same month, the developer revealed that the game would be coming to PS4 and Xbox One at some point this year. Today, we finally have the game's official release date, along with a new trailer. Give it a watch below.

The trailer doesn't show any gameplay, but it does look beautiful. Sometimes heavy strategy games struggle to translate from PC to console; however, the Frostpunk devs have put a major focus on ensuring the game works well on a controller. They've implemented an express menu that will give you quick access to some of the more common building commands. The game also uses choice-wheels and a top-down view to help with selecting and placing buildings. Obviously, we won't know until we see it in action, but it definitely seems like they've taken the appropriate steps to bring the full experience to console players.

The console version will include all the previous free updates from the PC release. This includes "The Fall of Winterhome scenario, additional customization options, difficulty settings, and balance tweaks". The team has plans for even more content. All told, this is shaping up to be an attractive package for anyone who wants to try out this critically-acclaimed survival strategy game.

Frostpunk: Console Edition comes to PS4 and Xbox One on October 11 digitally. The physical version will follow on October 18 in Europe and October 22 in the US.
