Frostpunk is a devastatingly punishing survival strategy game from the team at 11 bit studios. The game was an immediate success for the team and, while The Rifts wasn't great DLC, they're committed to supporting their creation with solid post-launch content. Frostpunk's season pass has already seen a few small updates, but next month players will get access to a major new content drop. The Last Autumn serves as a prequel story to the events that took place "before the freezing cataclysm". Give the release date trailer a watch below.

Frostpunk is set in a frozen landscape. Players are the leader of the last civilization on Earth and must work hard to keep your people alive. The Last Autumn lets players see what led the world to that po0int. It will pull back the curtain on the events that happened at Site 113 and show the construction of the generator.

Of course, the new narrative isn't the only thing to get excited about. Because this takes place in a world before the frost, players will also be able to explore a new environment not yet encased in snow. There is also a brand new Book of Laws. This gives players new ways to shape their city that weren't possible in the main game. And, it wouldn't be an expansion with new buildings and steam-powered technologies to uncover and construct.

The Rifts, Frostpunk's first DLC, was light on content. The Last Autumn looks to flip that around and deliver tons to do. Having it be a prequel story was a bit surprising, but seeing how the world froze is a neat story thread. Regardless, Frostpunk is a great game and this update should just make it even better.

Frostpunk: The Last Autumn is out on PC on January 21.
