Square Enix held a special stream for the 20th anniversary of Fullmetal Alchemist on July 12 - where several announcements were shared including a mobile game.

It's been 20 years since the original manga, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, was serialized by Hiromi Arakawa, and 18 years since the first anime adaptation.

FMA 20th anniversary event - Quick summary

More than half of the event had the seiyuu of Edward and Alphonse Elric, Romi Park and Rie Kugimiya, looking back on the series and discussing its characters. They most notably shared their thoughts on the brothers, with Kugimiya saying she's like to own an Alphonse. The series was also re-introduced for those who might have been unfamiliar with it.

Starting the 50:26 timestamp of the stream, linked below, Romi Park and Rie Kugimiya also voiced live some famous scenes of the original FMA manga:

The new manga by Hiromi Arakawa was also officially announced in this month's Shonen Gangan magazine released today July 12. And was re-announced on stream as well. There is still no title for this new series for now.

Fullmetal Alchemist 20th anniversary announcements - Collab café, mobile game

A Fullmetal Alchemist collaboration cafe will start in Japan sometime in 2022. Additional details will be coming at a later date. If you don't know what's a collab café, I explained them with the upcoming Genshin Impact collab café in Japan.

Next, a Fullmetal Alchemist mobile game was announced. During the anniversary stream, Romi Park and Rie Kugimiya mentioned they already started recording their lines for the game. More details will be announced in Winter 2021. A teaser site was also opened. Note that the game was only announced in Japan.

All of this is part of the Fullmetal Alchemist 20th anniversary project, and there is more to be revealed later on. The site lists at least two more "coming soon" projects.

As expected, no new anime project was announced. A mobile game makes sense seeing the series never got one. FMA got multiple console games in the past especially on PS2, but for over a decade now the console and PC market was eclipsed by mobile; So I don't think it's possible we'll get a new FMA console game anytime soon.
