The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu includes a short interview with Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian.

In the interview, Ueda-san (who is at the helm of a new team named genDESIGN) explains how his next game is still in a prototype phase, with aid from Kowloon Nights, a global fund dedicated to supporting independent developers.

He mentions the production environment provided by Kowloon Nights is very pleasant and great for testing ideas. He stresses out how this is much more difficult with traditional development methods, and how being unable to see whether a game idea is genuinely interesting or not before development shifts into costly stages is a real problem.

While he currently follows a peculiar, indie-like way of development, he accentuates the fact that his next game project will be a full-scale game like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. The new game will also be set in a different, brand-new universe and without any relation to the others.

Ueda-san ends the interview by saying he hopes to tell us more soon.
