Today, TinyCo, FoxNext Games, and Matt Groening released an animated teaser trailer for their upcoming mobile title based in the far-flung future television series, Futurama. This trailer represents the first published animation for the series since it ended back in 2013.

As had been previously reported, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow is being animated by the original animation team of Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, and Rough Draft Studios. The teaser trailer is the first bit of work that the team has released from their part in creating the new game, but it will not be the last, so says Groening.

"I’m proud to say that Futurama lives! In mobile-video-game teaser trailer form, anyway. If you squint, it's kind of like a little episode!"

In addition to this taste of what we can expect from the animation team (as if we really needed to know we love them!), we also learned that the actual gameplay will be a blend of genres. Here's a description directly from the developer's statement.

"Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will blend simulation, combat, galactic exploration, and choose-your-own-adventure mechanics together to bring the escapades of the Planet Express crew to life. The game features two main settings: New New York, which focuses on simulation and character progression gameplay, and Space Adventures, in which players will explore and battle their way through planets, nebulas, and other weird stuff across the Futurama universe."

While players are in New New York, they will take part in quest completion, equipment collection, crafting, and levelling their characters. Additionally, the events of the narrative are likely to move forward in these sections of the game. After assembling a crew of their favorite characters, players will get the opportunity to engage in combat with 16-bit aliens, make choices to determine the fate of civilizations, and of course explore the quirky universe that the Futurama series is known and loved for.

Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be coming to the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore soon. Oh, right! You probably want to actually watch the trailer. Silly me! Here it is:
