Future Firmware Update Will Let PlayStation 4 Users Dim the DualShock 4’s Light Bar

One of the standout features of the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller is it’s light bar which displays different colors depending on what is happening in a game. Today we found out that users will be able to dim the brightness of the light via an upcoming firmware update.

This information comes directly from Shuhei Yoshida who had to correct journalist Geoff Kieghley who originally tweeted out that the firmware update would completely disable the light bar. Keighley tweeted this after he conducted an interview with mister Yoshida at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference.

Many PS4 users have wanted this feature from the beginning so this will definitely make them happy. I’m curious to see if dimming the light will extend the battery life of the controller. I’m in the camp that believes that the controller’s poor battery life is directly affected by the light bar. We’ll see if this is true when this firmware update eventually goes live.
