Koch Media and Prime Matter plan to release the mysterious new turn-based JRPG 'Mato Anomalies', developed by the Shanghai-based studio Arrowis in 2023. The game will be released for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) next year.

Mato Anomalies was announced during this year’s Japan Expo in Paris, but the pricing for the upcoming title is yet to be confirmed.

Mato Anomalies (or Mato Endless Spiral in Japanese) is set in a post-apocalyptic metropolis with a mixture of traditional buildings and futuristic structures inspired by Old Shanghai, named Mato. The detective protagonist and his companions will have to unravel the numerous mysteries and secrets lurking in the shadows, shrouded by darkness. Eventually, the protagonist will step into another world that lies beyond the glamourous new city, and fight for what he must protect.

In Mato Anomalies, players control two main characters, a young private detective named Doe and a mysterious exorcist called Gram as they investigate the city through a series of exploration and battle phases. As the detective, you will have to visit various locations and talk to many NPCs to gather clues for solving the mystery. Meanwhile, as the exorcist, you will fight demonic and terrifying beings in an alternate underground world through a secret dimensional rift.

In addition to the characters having a shared health bar, there are strategic systems called the Gear Matrix and the Dual Talent Systems. It is also possible to gain new companions and friends as the story progress, and a glimpse of these friends and the God-like enemies that will stand in their way could be seen in the newly released trailer. A teaser epilogue also hints that there is more to the story of Mato Anomalies than what was already announced today.
