Gabe Amatangelo Speaks on Updates for Flashpoints and Operations in Star Wars: The Old Republic

March 5, 2012

During the SWTOR Summit today in Austin, Texas, Gabe Amatangelo did a presentation on future updates for the MMORPG. With over 20K people watching over the live feed, there were several statements made about improvements to the loot system, end-game operations, and even the next level of tier-2 content.  According to Amatangelo, there are going to be changes made to ‘Normal’ mode, one of which is changing the name to ‘Story’ mode. This is where players will learn of the flashpoints or operations, getting to know the stories and history behind them.

Other changes that are underway include the ability to be able to trade ‘destined’ loot within the first few hours after it is received. ‘Destined’ loot is the loot that is granted to you by the game itself. However, for more immediate updates, the main focus is on squashing in-game bugs, especially within Eternity Vault. With operations in mind, and without the use of add-ons, the team is hard at work on trying to develop better animations and in-game hints for boss fights. There is also talk of a group finder, for everything from quests to dungeons, to be used by players on the same server. Eventually, there will be some sort of out-of-game parser for personal use for measure a player’s own damage. Unfortunately, many of the updates have an unknown ETA, following the completion of the public tests.
