The Battlefield series is a wartime FPS that focuses on enormous maps, modes with lots of players, deadly vehicles, and large-scale fighting mechanics. Despite your feelings about any one game, Battlefield as a whole is unforgettable and a one-of-a-kind experience. To date, it’s the only place you can rush an enemy bunker, steal a tank, fly an attack jet, and revive a dying teammate, all in the same match.

Lots of games, however, boast similar elements to Battlefield. Plenty is worth trying if you never have before. So, in no particular order, here are the best games to try if you already love Battlefield.

10 Call of Duty Series

Call of Duty various pictures and characters

Whether it’s Warzone, the newest title, a remastered older game, a sequel to an old game that will one day be remastered, or even a mobile version, Call of Duty has an entire chunk of the FPS, PVP market all to themselves. Even the name Call of Duty has become synonymous with shooters, as Kleenex did to the tissue. There’s a good reason for it too. Despite constantly releasing new games, Call of Duty has some of the best PVP content out there.

Battlefield folks will feel most at home here out of the games on this list. The war mechanics, soldier roles, perks and bonuses, and pacing of on-the-ground combat from Battlefield are all found here in small variations. Also, the zombies, single-player content, and other modes provide some niche fun that can only be found in Call of Duty.

9 Destiny 2

destiny 2 season of plunder seasonal pirate gear

One of the most slept-on competitive shooters is Destiny 2. Destiny is a free-to-play FPS space-traveling game that features PVP and PVE content. Though being released in 2017, Bungie keeps the game as an ongoing service, with multiple updates and expansions since. If you haven’t tried it in a while, playing as a Guardian still provides some of the most hardcore, fun, and unique PVP experiences out there.

Boasting solid fighting mechanics, Destiny 2 is one of the few sci-fi shooters that's worth the time. Also, it's one of the few "games as a service" titles that actually delivers on the premise and is the only shooter to ever execute that element well. Battlefield players will feel at home in the PVP modes and should appreciate the well-done PVE experiences as well.

8 Valorant

Valorant agents from left to right: Sova, Phoenix, Viper, Jett, Cypher

If Apex Legends is the sped-up one on this list, Valorant is the tactically slow one. Valorant is a 5 vs 5 character-based FPS and is all about precise, meditated gunplay mixed with intelligent use of each agent’s unique abilities. Similar to other games on the list, utilizing certain abilities and traits in tandem can make for some powerful and unexpected results. Don’t let the slow, methodical gameplay fool you though.

Perhaps closer to a samurai battle than a shootout, fights in Valorant only last seconds. Battlefield people will appreciate that a missed shot or delayed response usually rewards the better-skilled combatant. A final round Valorant can make for some intense, white-knuckle efforts like few other games can.

7 Fortnite

fortnite update

One reason Fortnite endures so much is that it’s constantly changing. For better or worse, the game’s map, mechanics, weapons, and play styles shift with every major update and new season. This makes the gameplay anything but stagnant. Players have to learn, adjust, and rework previously successful strategies. However, at its core Fortnite stays very competitive. Battlefield players will be comfortable with all the PVP basics.

Yet they might be surprised to find an unexpected level of precision and speed in their cartoony opponents. The building in Fortnite also adds a unique layer of difficulty. Building is a tough skill though. It’s one thing to put up a wall but another to do it while dodging shotgun blasts, healing yourself, and avoiding a dancing Spider-Man with a lightsaber.

6 Escape From Tarkov

This entry has the highest stakes and probably the highest difficulty in the list. Escape from Tarkov is a tactical, multiplayer shooter where players “gamble” their gear every match. The game features a mechanic where players must get in, find better gear, and escape by finding extraction points. It’s the most hardcore of the bunch and if you’re downed in Escape from Tarkov, you lose everything you have on you.

If you down someone else, however, you reap the rewards of their gear as long as you manage to escape in time. Players who enjoy Battlefield will recognize campers and spammers but also appreciate the quiet, real-life tactics of Tarkov. It’s an intense shooter that rewards skill, patience, and effort more than most.

5 P.U.B.G.

pubg cover with characters

The OG, PUBG, still remains one of the most competitive, realistic, and fun shooters around. Unlike Fortnite, PUBG’s charm remains its steadfast reliability. Not to say it doesn’t change, but overall the skills, aesthetic, and flavor of PUBG make it feel like an old trusted friend to confide in.

The quick mechanics, unforgiving gunplay, and enormous map should make Battlefield players quick to adapt. PUBG’s well-known take on the shrinking PVP circle is also a brilliant mode that Battlefield players should absolutely try.

4 Apex Legends

Apex Legends characters and map in multiple panels

The most fast-paced on this list, Apex Legends is a battle royale FPS where teams of three try to outlast each other. Coming out in 2019, Apex remains unique, fun, and highly competitive. Probably boasting the highest tier difficulty in its PVP battle royale, Apex Legends is the sweet spot between fantastic powers, weapons, and character customization combined with hardcore PVP FPS mechanics.

Also, teamwork is incredibly important here as combining and synchronizing characters' abilities can be a game-changer. Battlefield players will relate to the intense action, team-rewarding mechanics, and high skill level.

3 Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest Event With Character Attacking Enemy

Not an obvious choice for this list, Borderlands 3 is an action FPS that features an explosive aesthetic, a cool one-of-a-kind art style, and irreverent, adult humor. Even if you’re not attracted to the tone of Borderlands, the gameplay can be tense and challenging.

Despite some lunatic character’s rants, the billions of weapon possibilities alone make it a must-try. Battlefield fans will appreciate the insane gunplay and customization, scenic art setting, and challenging gameplay.

2 Overwatch 2

Overwatch-2-Baptiste

Though not an obvious choice, Overwatch 2 is a game that Battlefield players should give a go. A team-based FPS that focuses on cooperation and character roles, Overwatch has some rewarding gameplay. Also, this game has the deepest dive into team roles as the experience of playing different characters varies wildly. With no match playing out the same way and each character playing so differently, you’re not likely to master everyone.

Battlefield players should feel right at home with that concept. In both games, getting to know one or two of each class is ideal. Also, like Battlefield, Overwatch 2 can make for some chaotic fun, surprising comebacks, and unpredictably close matches.

1 Star Wars: Battlefront II

star wars x wing explosion battlefront 2

Despite the reviews of the past, Stars Wars: Battlefront II has some incredible experiences that no other game has ever pulled off in the same way. The game is an epic action multiplayer shooter set in the Star Wars universe. Emphasis on the epic. Even if you’re indifferent or spiteful of the Star Wars franchise, picking up this game is worth it for the grand scale, the sci-fi space battles, and the rendition of the Star Wars universe.

To feel like you're part of some of these invasions, space battles, and warring armies all set against an incredible backdrop of sci-fi awesomeness is something every FPS gamer should try out. Battlefield players will enjoy the enormous maps, grand scale of warring armies, and inclusion of vehicles, classes, and fun chaos.
