Like the shortlist of legendary games stuck in development hell a la Half-Life 3, Team Ico's The Last Guardian was originally announced way back in 2009, and yet ICO and Shadow of the Colossus fans have had to wait with baited, and disappointed, breath as little to no news continues to appear on the game's release status year-after-year.

Speaking at Gamescom this week with CVG, SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida did briefly mention the status of The Last Guardian, easing some of the anxiousness for the game's release but not quite confirming where (and when) it might finally makes its appearance. Yoshida mentioned in an interview:

"Yeah, we are still making it...so we are still waiting for the right time to announce it. To re-announce it."

As an interesting note that Yoshida mentions "to re-announce it": does this mean the game may have shifted over development into the next-gen for PS4? Unfortunately, Yoshida was not able to comment on whether the game will be on PS3 or PS4, as he also mentioned "we have decided not to discuss this yet."

Yoshida also spoke with Famitsu (via a transcribed interview from Polygon) and mentioned that while Sony is still determined with development of the game, right now the PS4 launch and its first titles are the priority for the company:

"It's under earnest development. However, SCE Japan Studio, who's working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now."

The Last Guardian is currently under development by Team Ico.
