The Nintendo Switch has been a tricky console to get your hands on. If you didn't pre-order the device when it was initially available in January, chances are that you had a tough time finding one this past Friday. It seems that despite Nintendo's failure with the Wii U, fans showed up in droves to buy the new handheld and home console hybrid. One GameStop executive said that it was one of the strongest console launches that their company had seen in years.

In a quote given to Game Rant, GameStop Senior Director of Merchandising Eric Bright said the following on the Switch's launch this past Friday:

Stores across the country last night were packed with customers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the brand new Nintendo Switch.  We even had customers lining up as early as yesterday morning so that they could be one of the lucky ones to score one of the additional units for our walk-in customers. This is one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years. For those fans who are still looking for the Nintendo Switch, don’t worry–we’re getting more. And, we’re pretty sure that there are a lot of gaming fans who pulled all-nighters last night playing their new Switch, and who also called in sick to work today with ‘game-fluenza’ just to stay home and play even more.

While a lot was made early on about the system's lack of launch titles, it seems that in the end, it didn't matter. Switch devices are essentially sold out everywhere but like Bright says, more should be arriving in the future. Time will tell if Nintendo has found success with the Switch coming off of the failure of the Wii U, but they seem to be off to a strong start.
