In 2009, the Star Trek franchise was given its first major reboot since 1987; it was also the first time that the iconic roles had been recast and with new, younger actors. The series made Star Trek horribly mainstream, and Digital Extremes is looking to capitalize on the success of the reboot by subsequently rebooting Star Trek in the realm of video games. This is a medium that the intellectual property has not had much success in as of late outside of Star Trek Online.

The trailer depicts many of the third-person shooter elements as well as the “buddy cop”-esque gameplay that will allow players to assume the roles of Kirk and Spock, respectively. Also shown in the trailer were the main antagonists of the game, the Gorn, as well as shots of New Vulcan, and the Enterprise assisting Kirk and Spock on the battlefield.

Star Trek will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on an unspecified date somewhere around Q1 or Q2 next year. The trailer is available below.
