GDC 2019 Main Stage Presentation to Give Insight to Dreams and No Man’s Sky’s Development

GDC 2019 Main Stage Presentation to Give Insight to Dreams and No Man’s Sky’s Development

GDC 2019's Inaugural Main Stage Presentation will feature Sean Murray and Siobhan Reddy to discuss the development of Dreams and No Man's Sky, respectively.

The Game Developers Conference, also known has GDC, is one of the most notable game industry events for industry professionals. As opposed to the large reveals and public displays that come with events like E3 and Gamescom, GDC is much more focused on the developers, networking, and smaller presentations to press. Today, we learned that the organizers of the event are introducing a Main Stage Presentation that will allow developers to share their experiences and inspire others.

The GDC 2019 Main Stage Presentation will be titled The Developer’s Journey, and is poised to feature Media Molecule’s Siobhan Reddy and Hello Games’ Sean Murray to discuss the development of Dreams and No Man’s Sky, respectively. The presentation will take place at 12:30pm PT on March 20 in the Moscone Convention Center’s West Hall.

The Developer’s Journey will actually start with a small musical performance that Media Molecule will have generated in Dreams. After that, Siobhan will explain how different aspects of Dreams actually appeal and encourage player creativity. The focus will then move over to Sean Murray and No Man’s Sky, with Sean explaining how Hello Games created such an ambitious title and how they’ve been able to maintain and grow a player base for over two and a half years after launch despite initially be received negatively.

Finally, it will end with closing remarks from Laralyn McWilliams, who will discuss finding inspiration and staying optimistic in stressful work environments. While the Main Stage presentation won’t feature any groundbreaking or exciting announcements, it will definitely give some interesting insight into the development of two games that have seen their fair share of detractors.

Katie Stern, General Manager of GDC 2019, detailed the Main Stage presentation further, reiterating that this will be a recurring event for the conference:

“The first GDC took place at Chris Crawford’s home with a small group of game developers exchanging their best advice on how to make games better. We wanted to reflect that same spirit of connection and community that’s at the heart of GDC by making the Main Stage a place for all attendees to learn together. Development can be as rewarding as it is challenging, and one of our goals is to inspire the community to find better ways forward. We’re honored to have Siobhan, Sean and Laralyn to light the way.”

The Developer’s Journey is set to be open to GDC Conference and Expo+ pass holders, though it will also be livestreamed on the official GDC Twitch channel so those not attending can get in on the action March 20.
