For the first time, the people behind the Game Developers Conference in Autin, TX are going to host an awards ceremony. It will include such categories as “Best Online Game”, “Best Social Network Game” and “The Audience Award”. The group that organizes the four day conference, UBM TechWeb Game Network, are now accepting nominations from online game operators and developers in the categories. The conference this year will have workshops and discussions on topics such as online and social gaming, free-to-play web games and MMO’s – among other areas. The conference begins on Oct. 5 and details can be found on the main GDC website.

In case you aren’t aware, Austin has become a “Mecca” of game development over the last few years. The area has almost 20 mainstream developers – including Bioware and Aspyr Media – and 83 member companies in the Austin Independent Game Developers Association. So if you are looking for game development opportunities – head towards the Lone Star State and plan to attend GDC – Austin.
