Last week, players around the globe were brought into a world of battle with the release of Gearbox Software’s latest title Battleborn, with the company revealing that so far players have been embracing the game well with a “solid launch.”
Speaking on Twitch in a recent stream with Kalology, creative director Randy Varnell explained that since its release last week, Gearbox Software has seen the release of Battleborn as being “pretty good” and “tracking just ahead” of sales from the release of the original Borderlands in 2009.
Varnell explained that the studio is remaining “cautiously optimistic” about Battleborn‘s launch so far, adding that the game’s launch “felt a lot similar for us” compared to the original Borderlands.
Varnell also added in comparison that “ultimately, Borderlands [was an] extremely successful new game for us” and cited that the game ultimately sold “7, 8 million units in its lifetime,” with the title selling just over two million units worldwide during its first two months of release.
Specific sales numbers for Battleborn haven’t been revealed yet by the company, though Varnell mentioned that the game so far “is actually tracking just ahead of where Borderlands was on the sales” and calling it a “decent, solid launch.” Since its release, Varnell added that the company is seeing “steady and growing user counts on all three platforms, and hoping that word of mouth is going to take us even further.”
Battleborn is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
