It's been quite awhile since we've heard word about Gears 5, the upcoming Xbox One console exclusive from The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios. However, that silence seems to have finally ended today as new information for the title has now potentially come to light.

As first noticed by the Hispanic site Generation Xbox, the potential cover art for Gears 5 has now leaked. As seen on a Taiwanese ratings website when pulling up the listing for Gears 5, a new image featuring never-before-seen box art can be found. The box art prominently features Kait Diaz in addition to Marcus Fenix and the Locust Queen Myrrah, who is supposed to be dead.

The art seems like it could be legitimate but there's also something about it that is throwing me off. Since it's not a large image, it's difficult to make out the finer details. Myrrah's character model also just looks strangely off to me. I also find it weird how much dead space there is with the art. It could definitely be the real, finalized box art, but I'm also not sold just yet.

It's also worth noting that Generation Xbox further claims that Gears 5 will release on September 10, saying that this information comes via the same website. As of now though, the listing for Gears 5 on the Taiwanese site doesn't list a release date. If it once did, those details have since been removed from the description of the product.

This September 10, 2019 date does check out in the sense that it falls on a Tuesday this year, which is typically when games launch. Plus, Gears 5 will indeed be out before the end of the year according to Microsoft. That said, I can't verify the September 10 date myself so take it with a major grain of salt. It could prove to be real, but I have major doubts about it myself at the moment and I'd urge you to use that same caution.

So what do you think? Is the box art (which you can see below) and the release date legitimate? Let me know in the comments.

Either way, we'll likely find out for certain next month at Microsoft's E3 2019 briefingGears 5 is due out later in 2019 on Xbox One and PC.
