Gears of War Fans Raise $150K For Charity

In July, Microsoft began promoting a fundraiser that allowed fans of their best selling TPS series Gears of War to vote on the fate of one of the series’ very memorable characters, Carmine. All you had to do to cast your vote was buy one of two T-shirts in the avatar marketplace.

One of the shirts wanted carmine to live, while the other preferred that he befall the same fate that he has in the past, (SPOILER ALERT: that of course being him dying) but proceeds from purchasing either of the shirts were donated to the Child’s Play Charity.

The campaign closed this past weekend at PAX and while fans will have to wait until Gears of War 3 comes out to learn exactly what Carmine’s fate is,  $150,000 for charity is a win for us all. Gears of War 3 is due out in April of next year.
