Former NBA Superstar Chris Bosh Joins Esports Team Gen.G in Player Advisory Role

Gen.G has brought aboard Chris Bosh in the pursuit of having the former all-star prepare and mentor the organization's players.

Gen.G esports announced recently that they have brought aboard former NBA player Chris Bosh to work with the organization’s players moving forward.

A 13-year veteran of the NBA who recently had his career come to a potential end due to injuries, Bosh has previously won multiple championships with the Miami Heat and also played a portion of his career for the Toronto Raptors. Bosh’s role with Gen.G will specifically be called that of a Player Management Advisor, where he will help mentor and prepare many of the of the organization’s players across its five different teams.

Bosh gave a statement regarding his addition to Gen.G and what he hopes to bring to the table from now on.

“Everything about Gen.G aligns with my values and interests as an avid gamer. Coaching and mentoring have always been part of my long-term plan in some capacity. We’re creating a culture of winning and integrity based on the concept of teamwork — I can’t wait to get started because the future of Gen.G, and esports as a whole, is extremely bright. I really appreciated Gen.G’s approach to building winning teams, they were one of the first esports organizations to hire psychologists, physical trainers, really putting the player’s health and well-being first. Gen.G is first-class all the way.”

It seems that esports has become a trendy post-career activity for many former NBA superstars. Perhaps the most high-profile former athlete to get involved with esports following his basketball career would be that of Rick Fox, who went on to found the organization Echo Fox. Other former NBA players who have also become involved in the esports scene within the past few years have included Shaquille O’Neal and Jared Jeffries, who is the current President of Echo Fox.

As of now, Gen.G is competing in the League of Legends World Championship 2018 where they hope to repeat after winning last year’s title.
