Genshin Impact has taken the world by storm over the last week. Since finally releasing as a free-to-play title on PS4, PC, and mobile a mere seven days ago, the game is already doing some pretty incredible numbers both in terms of money made and the number of downloads.

Coming by way of App Annie, it is being reported that on mobile devices alone (iOS and Android), Genshin Impact has already surpassed 17 million downloads in total. These numbers were taken through the game's first four days of availability as well, which means that the total has surely increased over the weekend. Assuming that downloads on mobile continued at a similar rate compared to the first four days, this likely means that Genshin Impact is somewhere around 20 million downloads solely on mobile, which is wild.

While this might seem staggering, Genshin Impact had over 20 million players pre-registered for the game before it ever even released. We had an idea that it would be a pretty big launch, but even then, these first-week numbers are nothing short of impressive.

As for how these downloads might translate to the monetary side of things, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad spoke to IGN and estimated that the total revenue the title has brought in so far is likely around $50 million. "This is a huge achievement not just for a Chinese developed game, but for a new original IP too," Ahmad said. As it already stands, Genshin Impact is the biggest international launch to ever come from a China-based studio in MiHoYo.

In short, the success of Genshin Impact out of the gate seems to make it clear that the action-RPG won't be going anywhere in the near future. While it may have borrowed some ideas and mechanics from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Genshin is already finding an audience of its own in its infancy and will surely continue to only grow larger from here.
