Genshin Impact just launched a new trailer for Baal, revealing some interesting new lore - Here are our thoughts and analysis, most notably on the new characters spotted.

As a reminder, Raiden Shogun is the official in-game name of our upcoming 5-star character and her title as the leader of Inazuma. Meanwhile, Baal is her title as an Archon and current Electro member of the Seven. Then, you've got Raiden Ei, which is her real name, revealed on the latest livestream.

Genshin Impact - Raiden Ei new lore teased

The Character Teaser trailer for Baal, teasing her backstory, is animated with slide shots just like past Character Teaser trailers. Three characters can be initially seen. Judging from typical Japanese folklore, it's very likely the man at the left is a tengu seeing he has a long-nosed mask. The woman with horns and red limbs is an Oni. And the fox woman must be a Kitsune.

As far as I know, we don't know who the man is yet, and we should learn more with Version 2.1 and Raiden Shogun's Character Story Quest. Meanwhile, the Oni woman should be Chiyo, who is mentioned in the description of the Mask of the Kijin Weapon Ascencion Material.

The fox girl, however, is very likely to be the Kitsune Saiguu, "daughter of the Hakushin Bloodline". We've heard about her during the long story quest with Kazari, and I sure hope you read all that as it was majestic. This is even more likely seeing we can spot the tanuki Ioroi in the trailer.

Who killed who, Chiyo's identity as the Oni

We know that Raiden didn't kill the Kitsune Saiguu, but she ended up losing her life while trying to contain the filth that was contaminating Inazuma ages ago. Her current successor(?) is Guuji Yae / Yae Miko, who is also friends with Raiden.

Meanwhile, the trailer implies that Raiden ended up killing herself both the man, for unknown reasons and the Oni, because she supposedly went berserk. The Mask of the Kijin's description also mentions the character named Chiyo went berserk, which would confirm she's the Oni seen in this trailer. Lastly, the trailer also features a fourth character who looks exactly like Raiden Ei, probably symbolizing her past self.

Note that you can find the Japanese dub version of the trailer here, though there's no dialogue in the trailer besides a line from Sora / Aether.

Genshin Impact Version 2.1 Floating World Under The Moonlight will be launching on September 1 with the Raiden Shogun banner. The Sangonomiya Kokomi banner will be launching three weeks after that. You can always share your own theories with me on Twitter @A_iyane07.
