Gamescom Opening Night Live is happening this Wednesday, August 25, and Genshin Impact has some surprising news in store for the event - In particular, this could be the occasion for miHoYo to reveal a release date estimate for the Nintendo Switch version.

Geoff Keighley, the host of the Gamescom Opening Night Live, teased on Twitter that Genshin Impact will have some "special news updates" at the event. There are two possible scenarios we detailed below.

Event time, where to watch (August 25 update)

The Gamescom Opening Night Live is happening today August 25, at 11 AM PT / 2PM ET. Note that there's a pre show as well, which will start 30 minutes earlier. Click here for a countdown. You can watch the " target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">show on YouTube.

Judging from Geoff Keighley's tweets, the Genshin Impact news should be dropping during the showcase, not the pre show, but you might want to keep an eye on it either way in case anything happens.

Genshin Impact news coming at Gamescom - Predictions

The worst-case scenario - An old trailer, nothing major. This has actually already happened several times in the past now. The last time was at E3 2021, where "Genshin Impact news" was teased, but it only turned out to be the latest trailer for the upcoming update.

If we're out of luck, we might just see the trailer for Genshin Impact Version 2.1 Floating World Under The Moonlight again, with nothing in particular actually being revealed.

The best-case scenario: new details on the Nintendo Switch version. miHoYo announced Genshin Impact on Switch way before the game's global release, back in January 2020. Since then a report claimed the Shangai-based studio might have trouble adjusting the game due to the Switch hardware.

Later on, we also officially learned that the development of the Switch version had started at the same time as the other platforms, from the very beginning of the project. Giving us hope. Gamescom Opening Night Live could definitely be where we'll finally get a release date estimate for the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact.

Note that we might also hear more about the game's anniversary plans. Another possibility would be the announcement of the Resin Pass. Something miHoYo might have in store judging from past PSN leaks.

Can Genshin Impact get announced on Xbox at Gamescom?

This is very unlikely, as miHoYo already stated in the past it has no plans to bring the Online JRPG to Xbox One or Xbox Series X. It's the sole platform the game wasn't planned on from the start after all. Seeing the global player base of Xbox, it's unlikely to happen too. Not so soon at least. Perhaps this could be real in a few years after Genshin Impact had released, but not only one year later.

Stay tuned on DualShockers as we'll be sure to bring you the Gamescom news as soon as possible. Genshin Impact Version 2.1 Floating World Under the Moonlight will release on September 1, coming to PC, PS4, PS5, and Mobile.
