The Genshin Impact Japanese community exploded on social media after the reveal of an official Paimon smug gif on Twitter.

Paimon is Genshin Impact's mascot and the main voice of the Traveler protagonist, asking questions in their place and doing most of the talking.

And in case you didn't know, Paimon has her own specific Twitter account too. She can only speak Japanese. But she often shares different content than the official Japanese Genshin account. Mainly photos of her working, sleeping, or being smug.

This story contains spoilers for Enkanomiya.

Genshin Impact's Paimon shares smug gif on Twitter

On January 20, Paimon published a new short animation. In which she's seen blinking and possibly falling asleep. All while wearing a very smug expression. And the tweet is already over 39,000 Likes.

Most of the Japanese community is still in love with Paimon. Personally speaking, I wish the Paimon in-game was more like the Paimon on Twitter. Snarkier and multi-faced. But nice enough to follow you back if you kindly asked.

Is Paimon one-dimensional?

While I was indifferent to Paimon since the Beta pre-release, lately I've grown to dislike her as she feels too one-dimensional. Recent story content often feels like her sole personality trait is "I want food and treasure!" inspired by classic characters like Lina Inverse. Except Lina has many other facets to her personality and she's one of the main reasons why Slayers is the best anime of all time. Lina is such an incredible character that other franchises like DOTA literally copied her.

Of course, things could change in the future, as Enjou in Enkanomiya hinted Paimon could betray the Traveler. Personally speaking, I think this would be a way too obvious development, and miHoYo has something else in mind. Such as Paimon being a spy without knowing it herself.

Paimon's seiyuu Aoi Koga is also one of the hosts of the official Genshin Impact radio show. We'll get to summarize each episode soon if time permits.

Genshin Impact is currently in its Version 2.4, which most notably added new characters Shenhe and Yun Jin, and a new Archon Story Quest. Yae Miko will be released in Genshin Impact 2.5. For now, only a single, new leaker said she’d be the first banner so take it with a grain of salt.
