Genshin Impact - Is the server down? (August 12, 2021)

Several players are experiencing difficulty logging in to Genshin Impact right now. Personally, I'm playing on the Asia server and I am logged in as I'm writing this, so I assume the issues are happening mainly with the North America server. I did not try logging off and logging back in again though, and so it's possible the issue is only affecting those trying to login, while those already logged in before it all started are unaffected.

miHoYo already mentioned it noticed the server issue affecting Genshin Impact on Twitter, and it should be fixed in a few minutes. It's pretty rare for Genshin Impact to encounter server trouble, and that's one of the things the game has to its advantage. Of course, there were probably other issues since then, but the last time I've seen it happen myself live was already five months ago.

The

" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tweet explains that some players might be unable to login due to server "fluctuations", and that the server maintenance team is doing its best to resolve the issue as soon as possible. We might get some Apologems out of this too.

Genshin Impact is currently in its Version 2.0, which added the Inazuma region alongside new Archon Quests, Story Quests, and World Quests. Kamisato Ayaka, Yoimiya, and Sayu are the newest playable characters. Version 2.1, according to leaks, will add the three last islands of Inazuma, meaning it's likely the last Archon quests of the Inazuma chapter will be added then. miHoYo also already officially confirmed the Raiden Shogun, Kujou Sara, and Sangonomiya Kokomi will be added via new banners.

Twitter players were the ones affected, the issue has been resolved, on Asia server at least (Update)

The Japanese Genshin Impact Twitter just reported the issue as well, mentioning it's specifically players who log in using their Twitter account who were affected. The tweet says only part of the players was affected though, and the issue was now resolved. On the Asia server at least. The English Twitter account might be releasing a similar tweet soon.

Tears of Themis, the otome game by miHoYo, was also hit with a similar issue, which was already resolved.

The server issue has been fixed (Update 2)

The English Genshin Impact Twitter account has just tweeted the issue was resolved:
