Genshin Impact Shadows Amidst Snowstorms & The Snowy Past Guide

Walkthrough to clear The Snowy Past, first part of Shadows Amidst Snowstorms in Genshin Impact 2.3.

November 25, 2021

The main event of Genshin Impact 2.3 has started, Shadows Amidst Snowstorms, we’ve got a walkthrough and some tips to help you clear the event and its Phase I story quest, The Snowy Past.

The Snowy Past is mainly a dialogue quest with nothing particularly difficult. However, there are 2 moments where players might encounter some sort of trouble.

First things first, newer Genshin Impact players will need to have completed the following tasks to trigger the event:

Shadows Amidst Snowstorms: How to unlock and trigger The Snowy Past quest in Genshin Impact

  • Archon Quest “For a Tomorrow Without Tears” (Mondstadt main story)
  • Princeps Cretaceus Chapter: Act I – “Traveler Observation Report” (Albedo’s Character Story Quest)
  • “Lost in the Snow” World Quest (Joel’s Quest, you can find him at the camp at the entrance of Dragonspine)
  • Be at least at Adventurer Rank 20

You can now trigger The Snowy Past, the first quest of the Shadows Amidst Snowstorms Event. In order to do so, teleport to Mondstadt and go to the Crafting Board, you’ll see Timaeus, Noelle, and Albedo there, and it’ll trigger the first dialogue cutscene of the quest. You’re in for a lot of dialogues.

After the discussion with Sucrose and Timaeus, you’ll have to head to Dragonspine next for more dialogue cutscenes. Each of the objectives will be highlighted on your map, so you just need to follow and read the dialogues. Be sure to activate navigation on the Quest.

Shadows Amidst Snowstorms Event guide: Follow the footprints and search & Pursue the footsteps

The first part of The Snowy Past you might have trouble with will be when you will be asked to follow footprints after leaving Albedo’s camp. They’re indicated by white arrows but might be hard to see.

Long story short they led you to the open area with the Frostarm Lawachurl, which you’re not obligated to defeat and you can just keep following the footprints.

You’ll eventually be led toward that area seen in the map screenshot below. So if you get lost, keep following the footprints while heading in that direction.

You’ll end up reaching the cliff seen in the screenshot below. Go down and you’ll reach the entrance of Dragonspine’s cave for more story dialogues cutscenes.

This is the second moment of the quest you might encounter some trouble with. You need to examine the shiny spots right near Bennett’s cage to find the key. However, when you examine the second spot, a Cryo and an Electro Fatui mob will appear, so be sure to have a Pyro and a Cryo character in your party to easily break their barriers.

That’s pretty much it. Keep reading the dialogue scenes and you will reach the end of The Snowy Past, unlocking the mini-events of Shadows Amidst Snowstorms: Born of Snow (making icemen), and Dragonspine Special Training (mini-games and races).

The event will end on the daily reset of December 13. This is a long event, continuing Albedo’s story. The Snowy Past quest itself has over one hour of dialogue, and there are a lot of mini-events awaiting you after that. So don’t wait until the last day to rush everything.

The next phase of the event, with a new story quest, will open on the daily reset of December 1. The third and final phase will open on the daily reset of December 4. More mini Events will gradually unlock over the next few days.
