Genshin Impact Top-Up Double Bonus Reset - What You Should Know ASAP

miHoYo has a big surprise in store for the first year anniversary of Genshin Impact

August 31, 2021

Genshin Impact developer miHoYo announced on the August 20 Livestream that the game’s Genesis Crystals Top-Up double bonus will be reset with the launch of Version 2.1.

When is the Top-up reset hppening? (August 31, 2021, update)

The reset will happen with the start of Version 2.1 maintenance at 6 PM EST. In other words, you only have a few minutes left. As I explained below, if you have never spent anything on Genshin Impact so far, and can afford it, it’s definitely best to buy some of the Genesis Crystals packs now. Doing it like that once a year with each reset is the ultimate optimization way if you’re not a whale player but want to dip in just once as a f2p.

What’s the Top-up Double Bonus and why is it getting reset?

Genshin Impact players can spend real cash to buy Genesis Crystals. This is the game’s special currency that can be spent to buy Skins / Costumes for the characters. Or exchanged for Primogems. These gems are the gacha currency of the game. As in, what you need to pull new characters and weapons on banners.

There are several bundles of Genesis Crystals you can purchase. When you purchase a bundle for the first time, you get two for the price of one. A first-time double bonus is in place, just like in nearly any other gacha game.

Now, miHoYo announced that this bonus will be reset. In other words, if you can afford to buy Genesis Crystals, and have never bought any since the launch of Genshin Impact on September 28, 2020, now’s the time to do so.

Genshin Impact 1st Year Anniversary celebrations – Genesis Crystals Top-up double bonus reset date

The Genesis Crystals Top-up double bonus reset will happen after the Genshin Impact Version 2.1 maintenance ends. On September 1, at around 6 AM UTC+8. Note that Top-up bonuses that have not been used before the maintenance will not be accumulated. After the reset, you won’t be able to obtain two double bonuses for each top-up level.

Lastly, I’d add that resetting the double bonus is something several gacha games do. So it’s definitely nice to see Genshin Impact follows this trend.
