George R.R. Martin has played a pivotal role in laying down the building blocks of the world of the Lands Between, but he himself hasn't played the game yet, which is quite surprising.

MORE: Elden Ring Could Be Getting Two New Maps And Ray TracingElden Ring was one of the most anticipated games of this year, and it indeed manages to live up to the expectations. It was a new direction for the Soulsborne genre, as we hadn't witnessed a completely open-world game before, but the game ended up setting a benchmark for the genre as a whole. Be it the gameplay, the narrative, or the visuals, the game managed to deliver on all fronts, and we might well see it becoming the Game of the Year.

Like some of the previous From Software games, Elden Ring also features a mysterious world, filled with gods, supernatural creatures, and a lot more. One of the major highlights of Elden Ring has been the association with the celebrated author, who is well known for his work in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and Game of Thrones. Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (via GamesRadar), Martin reveals that he hasn't played the game yet.

"I have not played it", adds Martin, while emphasizing the fact that fans are eagerly waiting for the arrival of his next novel, The Winds of Winter, the sixth installment in A Song of Ice and Fire. While he might not have played the result of his own mastermind, Martin adds that his addictive personality got him sucked into games a long time ago. Having played games like Railroad Tycoon, Master of Orion, and Homeworld, he reminisces about sitting for hours, just saying "One more game, one more game."

While Martin's busy schedule might not allow him to try out Elden Ring, he is still awestruck with the final product. Expressing his gratitude for being a part of the project, he adds, "It's the most beautiful game I've ever seen. It's really amazing and amazingly detailed, and the people who play it love it."
