Ghost of Tsushima Patch 1.0.5 to Introduce Lethal Mode and Accessibility Options

Ghost of Tsushima is getting a new update, featuring new accessibility options and a new mode.

Following an incredibly successful launch windowGhost of Tsushima is getting an update, featuring new accessibility options and a new mode, as well as some general bug fixes.

Some disability advocates and disabled people weren’t as pleased by the PlayStation 4’s samurai-themed swan song’s relatively bare-bones suite of accessibility options compared to Sony’s last first-party outing, The Last of Us Part II. Seeing Sucker Punch begin to add some new options is a good sign — even if it is a drip-feed.

In the 1.0.5 patch notes for Sucker Punch’s latest, the main accessibility options being added are Lower Intensity Combat and new options for the subtitles and HUD text, as well as the ability to change the color of the subtitles to red, yellow, blue or green.

The Lower Intensity Combat mode being introduced in the update is, according to the patch notes, “Meant to maintain the heart and feel of Ghost of Tsushima combat while relaxing several timing-specific elements. Combat is less intense, giving you more time to react. Stealth settings are more forgiving, and enemies take longer to detect you.”

Among the specific changes added to make gameplay more accessible, enemies take longer to detect The Ghost, enemies won’t attack Jin while he’s healing, many unblockable enemy attacks become blockable, enemies will stop attack combos after damaging Jin and heavy attacks will interrupt brutes’ attacks.

The new ‘Lethal’ difficulty option feels like almost the exact opposite of the Lower Intensity Combat mode. The new mode features deadlier weapons — Jin’s katana and enemies’ weapons will deal more damage. Enemies are more aggressive, they can detect Jin more quickly, and there are tighter windows for dodging and parrying.

On top of the accessibility and difficulty options, the 1.0.5 patch also includes general bug fixes. For a full run-down of all the changes added to Ghost of Tsushima, click here to check out the patch notes.
