Today, Ubisoft announced via a new blogpost that Ghost War -- the new PvP mode for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Widlands -- is arriving sometime this fall as a free update. Additionally, a 4v4 team deathmatch open beta on all platforms -- PS4, Xbox One, and PC -- is scheduled to arrive later this summer at an unannounced date.

In the new Ghost War Mode, one team plays as Ghosts and the other plays as a squad of spec ops soldiers fighting to get a foothold in the country after the fall of the Santa Blanca Cartel.

Players will be able to choose from a roster of specialized classes, including: Scout, Tank, Sniper, and more. Each class is said to contain its own strengths, weaknesses, and dedicated perks, thus players will have to consider their combat strategy and team composition each time.

Battles will take place in open-environment maps, ranging from mountains and deserts to jungles and forests. Further, matches can take place in all types of weather and during many different times of the day.

According to Ubisoft, Ghost War "was designed from the ground up with the community in mind." Similar to the build up to the launch of the base game, developer Ubisoft Paris will select a group of community members to come to the studio and offer feedback right in the middle of the development process.

Lead Game Designer Lucian Istrate accompanied the announcement with the following statement:

“Our objective with Ghost War was to build upon the main game’s elements of co-op teamplay and open, tactical gameplay. To expand the tactical toolset, the team has added a new suppression system that affects your vision while you’re under heavy fire, and implemented new sound markers to help players locate their enemies’ position. Istrate cautions that “all of these elements will make team play, communication, and strategic skills more crucial than ever.”
