Initially announced back in April during the 2022 Meta Gaming Showcase, the Ghostbusters VR game finally gets an official title and release window, as Sony and nDreams have announced that Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will launch for PSVR 2 and Meta Quest 2 in 2023.

No specific launch date has been provided, likely due to the fact that the PSVR 2 does not have a firm release date itself yet. The announcement came as part of the devs' Kinda Funny Halloween event, wherein they shared a ton of new information about Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, including notable details surrounding the gameplay.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord has players preventing the biggest villain inside the Ghostbusters universe, the Ghost Lord, from wreaking havoc around the city. The upcoming VR game will take players to San Fransisco and feature numerous iconic locations, including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. It will include a four-player co-op, allowing a group of friends to put their boilersuits on and get their proton packs ready in order to go ghost hunting.

The game is being developed by nDreams, a UK-based studio best known for its VR adaptation of Far Cry. Although they have not released any gameplay footage, the official key art gives players their first look at the Ghost Lord and the Mini-Pufts. Furthermore, the developer team claimed that players will be able to customize their ghost hunter's appearance. As its description says, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord offers an extensive campaign in which players will unearth a mystery in a new Ghostbusters universe. Further details on the gameplay will be revealed soon.

The forthcoming VR adaptation of Ghostbusters aims to build a new universe set outside New York. As players might expect from a Ghostbusters game, the game emphasizes combat and action elements, but this time it introduces a new story based on a titular villain. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will release on Meta Quest 2 and PSVR 2 next year.
