A new teaser trailer for the second season of Goblin Slayer, dubbed Goblin Slayer II, has been released during the GA FES 2023 with Danmachi 10th Anniversary showcase, along with fresh details on the cast and staff members. The short snippet of action also coincides with a studio change, as LIDENFILMS will be taking the mantle of the new season from White Fox in the production house.

The premiere date for the second season is set for sometime in 2023, with a new roster of staff members joining the production team to fill the vacancy left by now-ex-studio White Fox. Unlike the first season that was aired back in 2018, Goblin Slayer II will be directed by Misato Takada, while Hiromi Katou will be taking over character design duties from Takashi Nagayoshi. Other than that, Takaharu Ozaki from the previous season will be promoted to chief director while Kenichirou Suehiro and Hideyuki Kurata will return to reprise their roles as scriptwriter and composer, respectively.

As for the main cast, Yuuichirou Umehars will play Goblin Slayer while Yui Ogura will take the role of Priestess. Other cast members that will appear in the second season include Yuka Iguchi as Cow Girl, Tomokazu Sugita as Lizard Priest, Maaya Uchida as Guild Girl, and Nao Touyama as High Elf Archer. There is currently no official word from LIDENFILMS on when Goblin Slayer II will be released.

Goblin Slayer is a dark-fantasy anime based on the light novel series written by Kumo Kagyu, which was published in English by Yen Press. The series has been adapted to manga written by Kosuke Kurose, and it then served as another source material for the anime adaptation.

Some staff members also provided a few brief comments, giving fans an insight into what to expect from the second season: ''Goblin Slayer is returning for the first time in about five years as a TV anime. In the 2nd season, I made a story mainly about the inner part such as the humanity and growth of each character. I hope you can see the relationship between the new characters and Mr. Gobusle, and the growth of the goddess in battle.'' Director Misato Takada said on GA Bunko’s live-stream event. Goblin Slayer actor Yuichiro Umehara added: ''Of course, Goblin Slayer II has an action scene of defeating a goblin-like goblin, but I think it’s a work that focuses more on the characters. There are many conversation scenes, and this work makes it easier to understand the characters’ views on life and thoughts.'' (translated by re-how.net)

Goblin Slayer follows the story of a man who dedicated himself to killing all goblins he will ever encounter in his life. Here is the synopsis of the anime, via Crunchyroll: "Rumor has it that, in a certain guild in the middle of nowhere, there is an extraordinary man who has climbed all the way to the Silver rank just by killing goblins. At the same guild, a priestess who's just become a new adventurer has formed her first party... and the man who ends up rescuing that party when they get into trouble is none other than the Goblin Slayer."

As for the specifics of the anime, it has a controversial depiction of rape and violence, which does not establish them as horrific. Besides, its dark fantasy world reminiscent of traditional Chinese RPGs has contrasts compared to other fantasy anime series'. The storytelling emphasizes brutality and appears to be taking a lot of inspiration from Berserk on the thematic front.
