God of War received a remaster in 2018 and since then, it has continuously been at the forefront of gamers' minds as one of the best PlayStation games. Although we don't know a heck of a lot about its next installment at this stage, we do know that the game plans to release next year on PS5. While God of War reveled in the spotlight of a remaster, the first three Uncharted games were ported straight to the PlayStation 4 and that was that. However, a former Sony employee recently opened up about his experience working for a particular PlayStation studio and discussed that Uncharted 1 and God of War were in consideration for a remaster with a modern graphic upgrade.

Michael Mumbauer, a former head at Sony San Diego Studio, was chatting to Twisted Metal and God of War director David Jaffe during one of Jaffe's most recent Gabbin+Gamin segments. Throughout the conversation, Mumbauer and Jaffe talked about different aspects of his role while an employee at Sony San Diego Studios and how his job saw him overseeing a visual arts group that provided support to other Sony gaming studios, but eventually, his role began to shift which saw him move more toward remakes and remasters.

When asked by Jaffe if he could explain it in a little more detail, Mumbauer replied "Remakes and remasters were the things I was chasing after. So that's why the dev team was built. What I can tell you is that's what I was chasing because I believed that there was value in doing something like a remake of God of War at the visual fidelity of today. Or, a remake of Uncharted 1." Even though Mumbauer is no longer working at the studio, the team in question still exists, which is comprised of around 200 people in total, and are currently working on an unannounced title. Whether the current team has indeed taken over Mumbauer's ideas or the studio will release a new IP, or even a sequel some rumor to be Uncharted 5, remains to be seen.

As we have seen, Sony dug deep and brought out one of their classics into a fresh new era with the PS5's remaster of Demon's Souls so it shows that this can be done well and perhaps we could see a God of War or Uncharted 1 remake but until we know for sure on what the team is actually working on, it will certainly be up for speculation.
