There's a lot left to be discovered in between God of War III and 2018's franchise revival God of War. When we last saw Kratos at the end of GoW3, he had taken down Zeus before then seemingly escaping from Greece. When we meet back up with the protagonist in God of War, he now has a son, Atreus, and he's worked on his anger issues just a bit. So what exactly happened to Kratos in the time between these two entries? Well, we're about to find out.

Dark Horse is set to release a new comic book series called God of War: Fallen God later this summer that will explore the time period between these two games. God of War: Fallen God will be written by Chris Roberson and will feature artwork done by Tony Parker. Dan Jackson will be the one coloring the series while John Roshell is the one doing the lettering. The first issue is set to arrive later this year on June 24, 2020.

Here's the official description of Fallen God:

"God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos after conquering Zeus and thwarting Athena. Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable—himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness."

An additional description for God of War: Fallen God states that the comic book series will find Kratos living his life in the Norse wilds. It is here that he then starts to work on putting his anger and rage behind him before coming into contact with a local cult. The story of Fallen God begins around this point and then starts to fill in the gaps prior to the events of God of War. Just how much we'll learn about Kratos' journey before GoW takes place remains to be seen, though.

For now, Fallen God is the only new piece of God of War media that is set to release in the future, although an inevitable sequel from Santa Monica Studio is surely set to arrive down the road. Whenever that project does drop, it'll surely be coming to Sony's new, next-gen platform, the PS5.
