Since its release in 2018, God of War has continued to be among the most celebrated titles to have released this generation for PS4 players. With a follow-up to the game confirmed for release sometime next year on PS5, it's likely that many players will either want to revisit or play the series' reimagining for the first time on PS5, with Santa Monica Studio confirming some of the next-gen features available for the title.Developer Santa Monica Studio shared more details on PS5 backward compatibility support with a few of its titles, notably including 2018's God of War. Specifically, the studio explained that on PS5, God of War will feature the ability to play in 60fps, and will also let players transfer their save files from the PS4 version to pick up where they left off. God of War III Remastered will also feature save transfers from the PS4 version, but no specific details were provided on visual enhancements for it on PS5.

As one of the most acclaimed titles to release this generation on the PS4, it's no surprise that Santa Monica Studio and Sony will likely have wanted to add some additional features for the PS4 exclusive game, which will be available to play through backward compatibility. Notably, Sony announced last month that the 2018 title will be included as part of The PlayStation Plus Collection, a free 18-game collection available for PS5 owners with an active PS Plus subscription at launch. This will likely give new PS5 owners the opportunity to play through the game for the first time, for those that might have missed out on its original PS4 release.

God of War is available now on PS4, and will also be backward compatible on PS5.
