There's no doubt about it - God of War is a cracking game. It's a title that draws people in and holds them tight due to its complex father/son relationship that gamers want to try to unravel and the strong emotional narrative it embraces. For those not wanting their adventure to end, fans were disappointed to learn that probably won't happen anytime soon, at least. God of War director Cory Barlog stated in an interview that he initially had “a really fun idea for a DLC” but that idea then became “too ambitious” due to the enormity of a standalone chapter in the story. When we hear the words God of War, we know exactly what is it, but what if the game you've come to know and love had been called 'At the Hands of the Gods' or 'Dark Odyssey'?This really could have been a reality according to David Jaffe and Cory Barlog.Over on a Twitter, Cory had posted his contempt over studio notes that had originally told Steven Spielberg to rename Back to the Future to Space Man From Pluto - I mean, can you even imagine? From that David Jaffe popped into the conversation to say that God of War had two other contenders: 'Dark Odyssey' and 'At the Hands of the Gods'. Due to not knowing which one out of the three to choose from, they were all put into a hat where finally God of War was drawn out at random.

Cory had joked that he actually wanted the title to be known as 'Angry Man from War Nation of Sparta' - which would actually make a lot of sense since Kratos has the temperament of a bull who woke up on the wrong side of bed, but I think we can all agree that God of War makes for a much better title - I don't think I could imagine it called anything else, could you?
