Speaking to Collider, Amazon Studio's Head of Television Vernon Sanders has provided more information about the God Of War TV series, promising that it will stay true to the source material and be compelling even for those who have never played the game before. Sanders also discussed their vision for the project, referencing the studio's track record with other adaptations such as Invincible and The Boys.

"At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] (showrunner) and Mark [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] (writers) have come up with for the first season, and the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own." Vernon Sanders gives a peek into what to expect from the first season. "If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it's going to be huge."

Sanders also claimed that the fact that the God Of War franchise has a huge fan base is not their greatest inspiration, revealing that they are looking for an emotional core and narrative story, which he thinks is provided by the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. "We do incredibly well with adaptations, from Invincible to The Boys. I mean, we just covered so many of them, right? And so we know that there's such a passionate fan base for God of War. But the thing that we're always looking for is whether there is a real emotional core if there's a real narrative story, and I think [that’s] part of what makes God of War so special."

It was made official that Amazon Studios will adapt God Of War into a television series, with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby writing the script. The series, based on PlayStation's first-party IP, will be produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, as it will premiere on Prime Video worldwide. With Rafe Junkis from The Wheel of Time executive producing the project, the God of War TV series will follow the story of Kratos, who sets off on a journey with his son Atreus in Midgard.

No casting decisions or a release date for the God of War TV series have been announced just yet. However, Cory Barlog, Creative Director at Santa Monica Studios, has been confirmed as an executive producer on the project.
