Godfall Announced by Gearbox for PS5 and PC at The Game Awards
Gearbox has announced one of the earliest-known PS5 games so far at The Game Awards, a fantasy looter-slasher called Godfall.
The Game Awards has been known as one of the biggest places for announcements and reveals in the games industry towards the end of the year, and 2019’s installment of the show has been no different. As part of the show’s big reveals, not only did Gearbox deliver a brand new IP but also confirmed one of the first games coming to the PS5, called Godfall.
During The Game Awards 2019, Gearbox Publishing officially announced a new game that it is publishing called Godfall, which has been confirmed for PS5 and PC and being developed by Counterplay Games. Notably, this marks one of the earliest PS5 games known to be in development, while the game has also been confirmed to be coming to the Epic Games Store on PC (presumably as either an exclusive title or timed exclusive).
According to the game’s reveal trailer, Godfall is a fantasy loot-based game that seemingly focuses on melee combat and will “engage players as they hunt for loot, don legendary armor sets, and defeat vicious enemies.” Godfall will support solo play alongside two or three-player co-op, giving players a range of options to take on missions and complete challenges together.
In a statement from Counterplay Games CEO Keith Lee (and the game’s creative director), Godfall is aiming to “provide a fresh take on action RPGs by rewarding skill-based offensive gameplay and making every hit matter. Lee added that “we want to feed into that yearning for the next best piece in your character build, so we plan to provide plenty of loot to players to ensure there’s meaningful impact to gameplay and playstyles.”
Godfall is currently in development for PS5 and PC and will release in holiday 2020, seemingly putting in position as a launch title for Sony’s new console. For a closer look at the game, you can check out the reveal trailer below from The Game Awards:
