The team behind upcoming DC superhero game Gotham Knights has announced that the game will support four-player co-op in a free add-on mode scheduled for release in November.The team made the announcement via the game's official Twitter account on October 14, just one week before the game's scheduled launch. The co-op mode, known as Heroic Assault, was introduced along with a seven-second video that simply provided the name and release date, as well as confirming that time mode will be a free addition to the game.
The action RPG title is scheduled for release on October 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. According to the tweet, the co-op mode will drop just a little over a month later, on November 29, which will give day-one purchasers time to complete the story mode on their own if they so choose.
One thing that's not yet clear is how the co-op mode will factor in to the storytelling aspect specifically, as the team behind the game has already announced that players will experience a somewhat different story when going through missions and scenes as each of the four playable characters.
The game's official website has also added a few questions pertaining to Heroic Assault to its FAQ section. It verifies that Heroic Assault will be a separate gameplay mode from the main story and will feature an "arena-like environment" consisting of 30 floors filled with different enemies and objectives. It is not yet clear whether this mode will feature any story elements at all or whether it will be simply a dungeon crawl that you can complete with your friends.
Gotham Knights takes place in a timeline following the death of Batman. In his stead, four heroes closely associated with him — Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood — set out to fight crime in his stead. The base game will support two-player online cooperative mode at launch for players who don't want to tackle story mode by themselves.
