It's not often that Rockstar Games deploys a client-side patch for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), but it looks like a brand new update is officially live across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Tuesday, May 17.

Although GTA: Online players are treated to a new update every Thursday, this occurs in-game and doesn't require a physical download to be completed by the player. However, it was just a few weeks ago that GTA 5 received a new patch, filled with a long list of bug fixes and changes.

Fans shouldn't expect any new content from today's update, as it's looking like the patch is merely for further bug fixes and improvements. However, here's everything we know so far about the May 17 GTA 5 update, with full patch notes expected to follow shortly.

GTA 5 Update 1.42 Patch Details (May 17)

UPDATE: The official patch notes are now live, find the full change log below:

[May 17, 2022] – Game Stability and Performance

  • Fixed a crash that occurred when equipping the Heavy Sniper Mk II in first person view
  • Fixed several crashes in GTAV and GTA Online

ORIGINAL STORY: The latest GTA 5 update brings the game to version 1.42, and has a download size of around 305MB, but this may vary depending on your platform. Today's patch is reportedly live on last-gen consoles and PC.

Although many fans are speculating that today's update is merely for bug fixes, there are some that believe the patch could include the next-gen features for PC. Last month's update saw the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game files added to the PC version of the game, but were not yet activated.

This caused many to speculate that next-gen improvements would soon be coming to PC, possibly in a later patch. However, this has yet to be confirmed by Rockstar Games.

According to Twitter user GTANet, today's update could possibly be a fix for the first person sniper aiming crash that was occurring across last-gen consoles and PC.

Make sure to check back in later today, as Rockstar Games often release full details and patch notes later on in the evening. We will be updating this article with the official changelog as soon as it is made available.
