Over six years ago, ArenaNet and NCSoft released their MMORPG Guild Wars 2, and the title has proved to be immensely successful with an estimated player base of 3.3 million. While the developers previously celebrated the anniversary by releasing a special video highlighting the game's "living world", they announced today that they will also commemorate the occasion with a special promotion with, interestingly enough, Kung Fu Tea.

That's definitely not the first cross-promotion idea that comes to mind when thinking about gaming, but the promotion will, fortunately, have tangible in-game rewards. While I'm personally not a fan of the drink, warm or cold, I'll bet that the several Guild Wars 2 players who do like tea will likely find this odd promotion both surprising and enjoyable. ArenaNet Global Brand Manager Elisabeth Cardy also seems to think this promotion is a neat idea:

"We love developing memorable, real-world experiences inspired by the Guild Wars 2 universe. Partnering with Kung Fu Tea to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Guild Wars 2 is an exciting opportunity to bring the game to life and engage with our passionate community, as well as reach new players and fans."

As for how this cross-promotion itself actually works, people will be able to both try out a Guild Wars 2 themed tea and use Kung Fu Tea's app to possibly win copies of the game. Throughout September, all Kung Fu Tea locations will sell Elder Dragon Dreamy Delight, a tea variation on the pre-existing Cocoa Cream Wow (no, not that WOW). If you post a photo of the drink after buying it on with #GW2xKFT, you'll also be entered into a contest that day to win a copy of Guild Wars 2 Deluxe Collection, which comes with all the expansions.

Those who dedicate themselves to this promotion enough to download the Kung Fu Tea app and connect their social media accounts to it will also get a new outfit based on a dragon and Guild Wars 2 Heroic Edition, which features its own special armor set, ten experience boosters, and an inventory box with eighteen slots. Kung Fu Tea's Marketing and PR Lead Mai Shi is fairly excited about the partnership as well and seems open to doing similar events in the future:

"We are thrilled to be partnering with ArenaNet on their best-selling game, Guild Wars 2. his would be our first collaborative project to tap into our current and potential customers’ gaming lifestyles. We hope to keep bringing fresh, innovative, and fearless content to our community."

So, if you want tea-based cross-promotions to become the norm or you just like Guild Wars 2, you will be able to try Elder Dragon Dreamy Delight beginning September 1. If you just want to play the game, Guild Wars 2 currently available for free on PC.
