Nowadays, besides for my brief love affair with RIFT, Guild Wars is the only MMO I'll touch. That's probably because it's not only free after buying the game, but because of all the crazy classes you can make. and the sheer variety you can create out of a party. As a an appreciation to the users for sustaining one of the most successful non-subscription based MMO's on the Web to date, developer ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft have announced a massive update that brings in some new content, some wacky new birthday tonics as well as some big overhauls to PvP, which as I recall was not the strongest point of the title.

Starting today through June 9th, Guild Wars players can purchase items such as additional character slots, costume packs, mission bundles and others, which are available up to 50 percent off in the NCsoft Store. The sales will be updated every Thursday at around 12pm Pacific time each week for the next six weeks. Today is actually the 6th year anniversary for the Guild Wars team, which is a great achievement on their part in a market way over-satured by MMO's.

Additionally, ArenaNet and NCSoft have released an update that brings some great new textures, a feature that allows player to locate mutual friends, and a new community event called Flux. Flux is a follow-up event to the Lunatic Court's attempt to free the Mad King during the Halloween event. Although this happened a pretty long time ago, apparently the event has caused some sort of Flux in the land that has caused significant changes to the land. This event will last for about a month, and although Flux sounds suspiciously like the rifts from RIFT, I think we'll all let it slide at this point.

So if you're an active member of Guild Wars, feel free to take a trip down to the Shing Jea Monastery this weekend for some giveaways, games, contests, races and other assorted content. And, more importantly, you can get your virtual party on.
