The Battle Royale genre is no stranger to competition at the moment thanks to the likes of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, but the stalwart H1Z1 is already making a big splash thanks to the game's console debut, and it appears many players are attempting to outlast one another on PS4.

Developer and publisher Daybreak Games has announced that H1Z1 has reached over 1.5 million players with the launch of the game's PS4 open beta, which debuted on May 22nd, 2018. Having drawn over a million and a half players in just a 24-hour period, the news is definitely encouraging for the title, and especially in a genre that is seeing a surge in popularity like the battle royale genre.

The PS4 version of the title brings over the acclaimed battle royale gameplay of the PC title, which has gradually iterated on the multiplayer of battle royale since the release of its dedicated BR multiplayer game, H1Z1: King of the Kill.

H1Z1 is available now on PS4 and PC, and will be arriving down the line on Xbox One. For a closer look into the battle royale shooter, you can read our recent preview of the game from its closed beta period.
