It’s not exactly the Half-Life 3 news that we wanted, but it is still some pretty cool Half-Life news! The creators of the Half-Life: A Place in the West comic series have announced the release date for Chapter 3 of their story, titled The Pit.

Half-Life: A Place in the West – Chapter 3: The Pit will release exclusively on Steam on July 21. It continues the tale of Leyla Poirier and Albert Kempinski, as they delve deeper into the world of New Franklin and introduces us to the “exotic menagerie of alien creatures” that make up the Pit, a gladiatorial arena.

Writer and co-creator Ross Joseph Gardner says that this entry in the series shows a marked improvement over the previous installments in various ways.

The Pit is a culmination of everything we learned from the first two chapters. At a total of 30 pages, the condensed narrative is sleeker, much more focused, and really aims to bring the city to life.”

For those wondering, Valve is not actually involved in the A Place in the West comic series, but has instead allowed the Half-Life license to be used by fans of the series. It is the creative effort of writers Ross Joseph Gardner and Micheal Pelletier and artists Heath Heil, Ester Salguero, Ivan Miranda, Rachel Deering, Javier Puga, and Kristian Rossi. The series is projected to run for 13 issues. The first issue is currently available to download for free.

Half-Life: A Place in the West – Chapter 3: The Pit will cost $1.99 when it releases for Steam on July 21. Below, you will find a trailer for the comic, detailing what the series’ story consists of.
